#1: GROW Model of Coaching

Welcome to the 1st issue of The Ordered Entropy newsletter. 🎉🎉🎉

Coaching is a non-directive way of providing guidance so that the coachee can make better decisions for the problems that they are facing and achieve their full potential. As opposed to mentoring, where mentors share thier knowledge, experience, and opinions with the mentee, coaches helps coachee to think through their situation in a judgement free zone without providing thier own opinions or solutions. Learn more difference between coaching and mentoring.

The GROW model is a simple framework to structure and organize a coaching session. It stands for Goals, Reality, Options and Will/Way forward.

You start the coaching session by working together with the coachee to decide the goals of the coaching in the short and long term. After that you discuss the reality - the current state of affairs. Then explore the various options that the coachee has to reach the goals decided earlier. After agreeing on concrete actions plans for the future, note them down and check their progress in the later sessions.

The infographic attached below summarizes all 4 steps of this framework along with some of the potential clarifying questions you can ask for each step.
